During his exile, Alberti took up painting again and began a series of poems to draw together his thinking on this subject, to which he continued to add over a period of many years. On the opening night, 26 Februaryit met with a stormy reception from a sharply polarised audience. Alberti converted the ballad into a play which was performed during Juneagain to sharply mixed reactions. His other plays did not achieve such fame or notoriety. Alberti also wrote several volumes of memoirs under the title La arboleda perdida.
